Amid criticism that HOK Sports Facilities Group's designs
for a new Ravens stadium failed to capture "the spirit of Camden
Yards," the Baltimore SUN asked six local architects to submit
new ideas. The results were common themes, such as taking
advantage of the proximity to the Patapsco River, creating
another "Inner Harbor-type waterfront," making it usable for more
than just football, and insisting that the design should be
different from Camden Yards. HOK architects meet with
Baltimore's Architectural Review Board today to present their
latest designs and to receive suggestions (Baltimore SUN, 7/10).
STARK RAVEN MAD: The Ravens have heard a "growl of
discontent" from ticket purchasers upset over their seat location
at Memorial Stadium, writes Ken Murray of the Baltimore SUN. Roy
Sommerhof, Dir of Ticket Operations, said "about 30%" of calls to
the team's hot-line number were from angry ticket holders, many
of whom were from groups of fans who were split up by the
computer that sorted applications and assigned seats (Baltimore
SUN, 7/11).
