NBA MARKETING 101? BULLETS TRY EVERY ANGLE TO KEEP HOWARD

The delay of the NBA's free-agency period due to labor talks
postponed the Bullets planned p.r. moves in an effort to convince
free agent Juwan Howard to stay with the team. The Bullets had
scheduled a rally, with a band, outside of agent David Falk's
offices, but that will now wait until Thursday. However, a local
radio station continued with its "Re-sign Juwan Howard Rally"
(WASHINGTON POST, 7/10). Yesterday, a plane was to circle Falk's
office carrying a "We Love You Juwan" banner. The team's mascot,
Hoops, also was to climb atop an apartment building -- not to
come down until talks with Howard are complete. Bullets Owner
Abe Pollin also extended the deadline until Thursday for fans to
make contributions to the Juwan Howard Charitable Foundation
which Pollin will match (WASHINGTON TIMES, 7/10).
