STARS STAR SUED BY TELECOM COMPANY OVER BREACH OF CONTRACT

ProCom Communications, however, is suing Stars center Mike
Modano for breach of contract, seeking $72,500. Modano signed
two endorsements deals with ProCom in December '93 and April '94,
according to the DALLAS BUSINESS JOURNAL. Along with two public
appearances, Modano agreed to do two radio and two TV spots, and
in return, he got free use of a cellular telephone, a charger and
a battery. A jury trial is set for July 22. DBJ's Rick Carroll
notes that ProCom attorney Tim Elder admitted Modano wasn't
exactly "basking in a river of fortune" when he signed the deal,
but according to Elder, "He's a big boy and can read his own
contracts and make his own decisions." Elder declined to say how
ProCom came to the $75,200 figure. Modano's counsel, Mark
Josephs, says his client fulfilled his end of the contract, but
didn't specify because the case is still pending (DALLAS BUSINESS
JOURNAL, 6/24 issue).
