WOULD THE INDIANS REALLY INVEST IN THE BREWERS' NEW PARK?

WI Gov. Tommy Thompson has asked for investments in the new
Brewers stadium from Indian gaming sources and the Teamsters
pension fund while Milwaukee Mayor John Norquist said lining up
financing for the facility was "on the verge of being solved,"
according to Lamke & Rinard of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL.
Norquist said "general concepts," including the sale of a city-
owned garage, sale of ownership stakes in the facility, and
financial help from MLB, "have been put together," but details
remain to be worked out. A "solid plan" could be announced by
the end of the week. John Burke, majority owner of the firm that
operates the Potowatomi Bingo Casino, reported Thompson's request
on possible interest in buying an equity stake, but he said
Thompson did not explain "what an investor might receive in
return." Thompson meets Thursday with stadium construction
officials and Brewers reps to discuss cost overruns on the
project (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 6/26).
