LEAGUE NOTES

     Officials in Phoenix have decided to pass on bidding for the
'99 Super Bowl, according to the MESA TRIBUNE.  Bill Shover,
outgoing Chair of the Super Bowl XXX Host Committee, cited
scarcity of hotel rooms and the perception South Florida has a
"lock" on the game (MESA TRIBUNE, 6/20)....The WLAF is expected
to have cut its losses from about $23M in '95 to about $12M this
year.  Asked when the WLAF might make money, league President
Oliver Luck said, "Maybe by 2005 or so" (AP/CHICAGO TRIBUNE,
6/23).... A.J. Foyt has refiled his $5M lawsuit against CART in
after a judge in TX denied a hearing on jurisdictional grounds.
Also, from NATIONAL SPEED SPORT NEWS, Bruce Martin begins a two-
part assessment on the state of the CART-IRL feud (NSSN, 6/19
issue).
