NEW MAPLE LEAF GARDENS ON THE HORIZON?

     The possibility of building a new Maple Leaf Gardens is
expected to be discussed during the MLG Ltd. board meeting today,
according to this morning's TORONTO SUN.  Lance Hornby writes the
Board will also be introduced to new minority owner Larry
Tanenbaum, who bought a stake in the club last week for C$21M.
Leafs President & GM Cliff Fletcher said he is in the "early
stages" of a feasibility study (TORONTO SUN, 6/24).  David
Shoalts reports, "A new building is probably in the works."  But
MLG Chair Steve Stavro, who acknowledges the need, is still
noncommittal.  Stavro said, through an attorney, that most of
Tanenbaum's investment will go toward the C$23M owed as part of a
settlement with shareholders who sued Stavro over his bid to
control the team (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 6/24).
