LATEST FROM CHICAGO: STILL A CHANCE JACKSON WILL STAY ON

Chicago's WGN Radio is reporting this morning that the Bulls
and coach Phil Jackson could resume talks today and that there is
still a chance that an agreement on a new deal can be reached
(SportsTicker). As contract talks with Jackson hit "what
appeared to be the final impasse" late last night, Bulls
assistant coach Jimmy Rodgers had emerged as the prime candidate
to replace Jackson, according to Lacy Banks of the CHICAGO SUN-
TIMES. The Bulls were scheduled to make an announcement today on
their coaching plans, but Jackson's agent, Todd Musburger, said
he "wasn't optimistic" because the Bulls "give us the impression
that they want to move in a different direction." Banks notes,
"Apparently, [Bulls Owner Jerry] Reinsdorf and [Bulls GM Jerry]
Krause are confident they can luck out again with a controversial
coaching change" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 6/20).
