YOU GOT THE TIME? TIME- SHARES THAT TIE INTO SPORTING EVENTS

AZ-based Varsity Clubs of America has built a 60-unit time-
share resort three miles from the campus at Notre Dame, and has
similar plans for projects at the Univ. of Wisconsin, Arizona,
Tennessee, Syracuse and Auburn, according to the MILWAUKEE
JOURNAL-SENTINEL. Officials are also considering Penn State,
Iowa and Oklahoma in a development plan that could include 15
campuses in the next five years. The firm hopes to offer
accommodations for university sporting event weekends during
which hotel accommodations are "often stretched beyond their
capacity." Varsity Club President Elena Valadez said the time-
shares are "deeded property, and since university loyalty is not
bound by a single generation, it can be passed down from
grandparents, to parents, to children." Depending on the amount
of time buyers are seeking, ownership can cost between $5,600 and
$70,000. And, as with most time-shares, days can traded for
stays at other Varsity Club facilities (Dennis Chaptman,
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL-SENTINEL, 6/19).
