WEEKEND NIELSENS: NBA LOOKING AT SECOND-BEST RATED SERIES

     Nielsen's Sports Marketing Service reports preliminary
overnight ratings from Games 5 and 6 of the NBA Finals show the
"NBA on NBC" gaining a 18.8 rating and a 34 share on Friday and a
21.1/37 on Sunday.  NOTE:  As these numbers are preliminary, they
may not match later figures reported by networks or other news
outlets (THE DAILY):

     BEHIND THE NUMBERS:  The final numbers for Game 5 were a
17.2 rating and a 33 share.  That number guaranteed NBC the
second highest rated Finals ever.  Through five games, NBC was
averaging a 16.3/30.  The average rating for the '93 Bulls-Suns
series was a 17.9/33 (NBC Sports).  This morning, Nielsen Sports
Marketing reports the national rating for Sunday's Game 6 was an
18.8/35 (THE DAILY).
