LEAGUE NOTES

6.13.1996

     The USGA announced the 2001 U.S. Open will be held at
Southern Hills in Tulsa, OK.  The move is considered a
"surprise," according to ESPN's Jimmy Roberts, because many felt
courses in Philadelphia and Long Island, NY, were the
frontrunners ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 6/12)....NFL assistant
coaches meet this weekend in Chicago under the header of the
Professional Football Association, according to USA TODAY's Larry
Weisman.  They will continue to discuss ideas formulated last
January at the Senior Bowl, including organizational structure,
marketing opportunities, and the lack of a retirement health-care
plan.  The PFA has signed nearly all of the league's 380
assistant coaches and 14 head coaches with dues of $100 each (USA
TODAY, 6/13).
