NAMES IN THE NEWS

     Microsoft Co-founder and Blazers Owner PAUL ALLEN, who
signed an exclusive 14-month option to purchase the Seahawks last
month, has invested in Capstone Turbine Corp. through his Vulcan
Ventures Inc. investment company.  President and CEO of the Paul
Allen Group VERN RABURN will be on the Capstone board.  Capstone
produces power turbogenerators (Portland OREGONIAN, 5/23)....The
Univ. of Oregon's James H. Warsaw Center will hold a symposium
May 30 covering the future of women and sports business.
"Preparing for the Growth of Women's Sports:  Women as
Participants, Marketers and Consumers" will be moderated by DONNA
LOPIANO, Exec Dir of the Women's Sports Foundation.  She will be
joined on the panel by ABC/ESPN broadcaster LESLEY VISSER;
Blazers VP/Marketing SHARON HIGDON; and SUE LEVIN, Manager of
Nike's Women's Sports Marketing.  The symposium will be available
in its entirety on the internet beginning May 31 at noon EST at
http://www.goducks.com (Warsaw Sports Marketing Center).. ..Nike
co-founder and Duck alum PHIL KNIGHT will bestow $10M on the
Univ. of Oregon, the largest gift received by a public university
in the state (Portland OREGONIAN, 5/23).... MUHAMMAD ALI filed a
$500,000 lawsuit against L.A.-based Forever Films for allegedly
using his picture on a telephone credit card without his
permission (PHILLY DAILY NEWS, 5/24)....Rockets assistant coach
CARROL DAWSON is expected to be named to a "general-manager-like
job" with the team that will make him a point man on personnel
and operations matter and have him work with coach RUDY
TOMJANOVICH (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 5/24)....With $7,500 in hand,
FRANK GIFFORD paid workers at a clothing sweatshop who had not
been paid by their owner who produces clothing named after
Gifford's wife, KATHIE LEE GIFFORD (N.Y. TIMES, 5/24)....A
Detroit woman filed suit against Bullets forward JUWAN HOWARD
contending he is the father of her four-year-old son (DETROIT
NEWS, 5/23).
