DISNEY SET TO TAKE OVER ANGELS STARTING TONIGHT

When the Angels host the Red Sox tonight, it will officially
mark the beginning of Walt Disney's control over the team. Disney
officials say they will work in changes slowly to bring fans out
to the Big A before they start its $100M stadium renovation.
Disney Sports spokesperson Bill Robertson: "We don't want to burn
our fans out. We want to ease into this process." Charlie
Messerly, an entertainment producer from Disneyland, will
orchestrate Angels game-time entertainment "like a TV show,"
according to Disney Sports President Tony Tavares. "Southpaw" the
mascot will "do more roving around instead of hanging around the
dugout." Disney looks to make the Angels Orange County's team,
but they also want to draw from the Inland Empire region and
northern San Diego. Tavares: "We're not going in with some degree
of arrogance. I'm sure we'll make mistakes and we'll learn from
them. Let's go out and see what our crowd wants" (Barbara
Kingsley, ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 5/24).
