Nashville Metro Councilman Lawrence Hart, who was stabbed in
the arm and thigh, said he was attacked because of his stand
against bringing the Oilers to Nashville. Hart said the attacker
said "something about 'if you stop the Oilers' deal you're dead
meat' or something like that" (TENNESSEAN, 5/22)....Beginning in
'98, the Army-Navy game "likely will be played" at the Redskins
new 78,600-seat stadium in Landover when Navy chooses the site in
alternate years (WASHINGTON POST, 5/24)....A WASHINGTON POST
editorial lauds the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, who
voted against building a baseball stadium in that county, for
being "wary of underwriting some franchise owner at the expense
of more worthy causes" (WASHINGTON POST, 5/24)...Calvin Hill, who
soon will officially announce his efforts to bring a baseball
team to DC, said bringing a team to Northern VA is also an option
(VIENNA TIMES, 5/23).... Construction on the new Redskins Stadium
was stopped when it was discovered braces for a foundation were
built ahead of schedule. Construction is expected to resume
today (WASHINGTON TIMES, 5/24)....The Coyotes may use Veterans
Memorial Coliseum for practice during their first season in
Phoenix but team officials plan to build a new practice and
training facilities (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 5/24).
