MEDIA NOTES

     The Mariners are averaging a 13.0 and a 28 share for 14 TV
games through May 20.  That is a 48% rise over last year's 8.8 at
this time (Mariners)....CRAIN'S NEW YORK BUSINESS profiles Elaine
Farley, recently selected to replace Jule Campbell as Editor of
SI's Swimsuit Edition.  CRAIN'S reports SI "is looking for an
increase in the issue's marketing power by developing a host of
brand-name product extensions" (CRAIN'S NEW YORK, 5/20
issue)....White Sox broadcaster John Rooney has signed to work
Saturday games on Fox.  Rooney will relinquish his Sunday night
duties on CBS Radio, with Jerry Coleman his replacement.  Rooney
will continue doing Sox games on WMVP-AM (CHICAGO TRIBUNE,
5/23)....Agence France Press has launched the World SportsReport,
a Web-based service providing news, scores and photos from around

ONLINE, 5/23)....TNT's Tuesday telecast of the Bulls-Magic Game 2
recorded an 8.6 rating, the second highest for an NBA cable game
(N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 5/23).  SportsChannel Chicago's local coverage
of Game 2 gained a 25.3 rating and a 37 share, surpassing the
previous record of a 24.6/35 (SportsChannel)....CABLE WORLD
reports DirecTV will shift its marketing focus from sports to
movies in the next few months (CABLE WORLD, 5/20 issue).
