SEYMOUR KNOX III, CHAIRMAN OF NHL'S SABRES, DIES

5.22.1996

     Sabres Chair Seymour Knox III died today at the age of 70.
Knox's contributions to the NHL were praised by NHL Commissioner
Gary Bettman, who credited the team's founder with "vision,"
"wisdom," and "passion" (NHL).  Knox and his brother, Northrup,
now Chair of Marine Midland Bank, were awarded the team as part
of the NHL's expansion in '69.  Knox is survived by his wife,
Jean, and four children, including Seymour Knox IV, the Sabres'
Assistant to the President and Alternate Governor (THE DAILY).
