Jim Jennings, President of the CBA Florida Beachdogs, will
be in New York this week to interview for the vacant NBPA Exec
Dir position. Jennings: "I understand they're looking for
somebody with a strong marketing background who can bring the
players together and raise dollars." Jennings, one-time
Marketing Dir of NASL's New York Cosmos, later formed Blue Sky
Management, a marketing agency for NFL players. He was also GM
of the USBL's Florida Sharks before joining the CBA (Chuck
Otterson, PALM BEACH POST, 3/21).
GIVE PEACE A CHANCE: Unresolved issues in the CBA passed
ratified last September by the NBA and NBPA -- and how they may
threaten the entire deal -- are examined by Peter May of the
BOSTON GLOBE. NBA Senior VP/Business & Legal Affairs Jeffrey
Mishkin said the NBPA "decided all the things they had agreed to
didn't look so good anymore, and that is what is putting the
whole deal in jeopardy." The issues relate to the cap, group
licensing and benefits. While the NBA is concerned the deal
could fall apart, union lawyer Ron Klempner said, "We are
prepared to live up to everything that was ratified" (BOSTON
GLOBE, 5/19).
