BASEBALL BACKERS TRY TO RESUSCITATE VA'S MLB BID

Following a vote by Fairfax County, VA, supervisors against
a baseball stadium in the face of opposition by area homeowners,
the Virginia Baseball Club and Virginia Baseball Stadium
Authority "scrambled" to come up with new potential sites and to
"revive" some previously rejected. The WASHINGTON POST reports
Virginia Baseball urged Fairfax supervisors to reconsider the
rejected site while asking the board to look at a new site north
of the Beltway off I-95. Also, Loudoun County officials
discussed new options near Dulles Airport and considered
reopening talks on another parcel rejected two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, the VA Stadium Authority voted to extend to June 17
the deadline for counties to propose sites and acknowledged, with
new and old sites under consideration, they may have to start the
entire process over (Eric Lipton, WASHINGTON POST, 5/22).
OVER IN NOVA? The WASHINGTON TIMES notes, if the Stadium
Authority calls for new proposals, it may begin looking statewide
for a new site. Authority Chair George Barton said the panel is
"not a Northern Virginia authority," but "a Virginia authority,"
and called Tidewater and Richmond "good areas" (WASHINGTON TIMES,
5/22).
