SALT LAKE OLYMPIC ORGANIZERS WORK TOWARD SPONSOR AGREEMNT

Salt Lake Olympic organizers are ready to start signing
sponsors for the 2002 Games, but no deals can be made final until
the USOC and the SLOC agree on how to split the proceeds,
according to the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. The USOC has hired Arthur
Andersen & Co. to make a case for what the USOC thinks is fair,
while SLOC reps say the Andersen study may not guide them in
their negotiations. An agreement was originally set to be
completed in March, but now is not likely until December. A
short-term goal is to have an agreement-in-principal completed by
the '96 Games. This would allow USOC and SLOC marketers to
jointly initiate discussions with potential sponsors while in
Atlanta. Another issue is the length of the next round of
sponsorships. Traditionally, sponsorships are tied in a two-
Games package. The next round of U.S. sponsorships is expected
to begin January '97 and run through Decemeber 2004 (John Keahey,
SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 5/19).
