NBA SETS SCHEDULE FOR MEXICO; NEWS AND NOTES

5.17.1996

     The NBA announced their "NBA Challenge '96" preseason event
in Mexico will be played October 26-27.  The Cavaliers, Suns,
Jazz and Mavericks will play in the event promoted by Operadora
de Centros de Espectaculos, SA de CV, the operators of the arena
in Mexico City (NBA).
     NBA NEWS AND NOTES: Gene Yasuda examines WNBA in the ORLANDO
SENTINEL. Jack Swope, Magic Exec VP of Business Ops, said the
team hasn't decided if it will bid for a women's team, but added,
"the whole concept is very intriguing to us" (ORLANDO SENTINEL,
5/17)....Joan Ryan writes from San Francisco on the NBA's youth
movement: "The NBA should have programs in place that help their
youngest players make the sudden transition into a life of fame,
money and pressure" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 5/17)....Spurs C David
Robinson said ref Steve Javie's calls last night were "personal"
and "garbage" (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 5/17).
