LAS VEGAS BET ON SPRING TRAINING SITES NOT HITTING JACKPOT

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority revealed
that the city is offering four teams $900,000 to move their
spring training headquarters to Las Vegas, according to Susan
Slusser of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Teams approached include the
Reds, Royals, Astros and Rangers. The Royals and Rangers have
reportedly both pulled out of talks. The city would keep gate
receipts and concession revenue, but would guarantee teams
$900,000 apiece. Visitors Bureau President Marty Cortez said the
Rangers wanted $1.6M to make the move (DALLAS MORNING NEWS,
5/15). In K.C., Royals GM Herk Robinson said "the dollars aren't
there" (K.C. STAR, 5/15).
