CBC STRIKE LOOMS, POSSIBLY ENDANGERING NHL PLAYOFF COVERAGE

     If a labor agreement is not reached by Thursday, CBC
employees could strike or be locked out -- which, according to
William Houston of the GLOBE & MAIL, "would probably shut down"
Hockey Night in Canada. HNIC Exec Producer John Shannon did not
discount the possibility of management producing the show.
Shannon: "All the games are in the United States, and not many
CBC employees are involved in the shows." Options for
continuing:  On-air personnel would need to cross picket-lines;
picking up a U.S. feed; have Molstar sell games to another
Canadian network -- CTV, Global-CanWest or TSN (Toronto GLOBE &
MAIL, 4/30).
