NFL DRAFT NOTES: FROM KEYSHAWN JOHNSON TO MR. IRRELEVANT

     USA TODAY's Michael Heistand writes of ESPN's two-day, 17-
hour NFL Draft coverage: "TV sports' answer to the Jerry Lewis
telethon is better evaluated by the ton: By that measure, ESPN
delivered" (USA TODAY, 4/22). In L.A., Tom Hoffarth calls ESPN
Coordinating Producer Fred Gaudelli's comparison to the Lewis
telethon an "astute analogy. With both, there's no guarantee
that the illness will ever be cured no matter how long the show
goes on" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 4/19). Gaudelli: "I don't care what
you compare it to, even a political convention. I can't think of
any other show that has 17 live hours in two days" (Bruce Adams,
S.F. EXAMINER, 4/19). In Tampa, Doug Carlson writes, "ESPN came
into the game so well-prepared to fill gaps between picks that it
forgot to put a kill-switch on [Mel Kiper Jr.'s] headset. While
he was talking, the network missed the very first pick of the
day" (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 4/22).
