BELLE TAKES AIM AT ANOTHER MEMBER OF THE MEDIA

Indians VP of Public Relations Bob DiBiasio said the team
has informed the AL of another incident involving Albert Belle
and a member of the media. Tony Tomsic, a photographer for
Sports Illustrated who suffered cuts while avoiding baseballs
thrown at him by Belle, has not filed a complaint. The incident
was not made public until a weekend newspaper report. Tomsic:
"I feel bad for the club. I didn't want to cause trouble for
them." DiBiasio: "Internally, Albert was castigated by his
teammates big-time for doing it. We told the league that as far
as we know, Tony felt it was taken care of" (AP/WASHINGTON POST,
4/22). Indians GM John Hart: "What happens from here, I don't
know." AL VP/Media Affairs Phyllis Merhige: "I don't see how we
can justify doing anything if we didn't see it or if nobody
complains." Tomsic had tried to photograph Belle before an April
6 game. SI has been working on a story on Belle for weeks
(Sheldon Ocker, Akron BEACON JOURNAL, 4/22).
