     Magic VP of Basketball Ops JOHN GABRIEL reportedly has the
inside track on the 76ers GM position, but the Magic have offered
Gabriel a better title, a raise and more authority in RDV Corp.,
which operates the Magic and Solar Bears (PHILA. INQUIRER,
4/21)....Padres Dir of Corporate Relations MIKE DEE was presented
with the "Marketer of the Year Award" by the American Marketing
Assoc. for his efforts with the Hispanic market (S.D. DAILY
TRANSCRIPT, 4/20).... Sportscasters AL MICHAELS, DAN DIERDORF,
CHRIS BERMAN and MIKE TIRICO will appear as themselves in the
upcoming TOM CRUISE comedy "Jerry Maguire" (The Marquee
Group).... Oddsmaker and former CBS Sports sportscaster JIMMY
"THE GREEK" SNYDER died of heart failure Sunday.  Neal Pilson,
who as CBS President dismissed Snyder in '88 for making offensive
ethnic stereotypes:  "It's difficult after a man passes away to
revisit an issue that turned out to be very difficult for him and
CBS" (USA TODAY, 4/22).
