IMAGE PROBLEMS IN BIG D: COWBOYS NOT STRAIGHT- SHOOTERS?

The Cowboys' image "crisis" this off-season was the focus of
ESPN's "Cover Story." According to OT Mark Tuinei, the
transgressions of certain individuals reflect poorly on the team
as a whole. Tuinei: "You go out and people think, `Oh, what's
the problem with the Cowboys now? You guys got a drug problem
there?'" Michael Irvin, on the "America's Team" label: "I say
if you're projecting America on a football team, woe is America."
DALLAS MORNING NEWS columnist Randy Galloway: "Jerry Jones is
scared and that's good. Image is money. Image is everything.
Winning helps that image, but this off-the-field thing, it has
huge impacts on how Jerry Jones markets this football team."
Jones: "I am concerned about the perception that people have
that potentially the Cowboys are arrogant, or they're smug, or
that because of some of the positions that I've taken regarding
marketing in some manner influence a person's choice in a
situation of substance abuse. I don't really think that's the
case" ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 4/15).
