BOOOM! SPORTSCASTER JOHN MADDEN SIGNS WITH ALIEN SPORT

     Fox sportscaster John Madden has signed as a spokesperson
for Alien Sport Golf Clubs. Alien will feature Madden in a 2 1/2
year, multi-million dollar ad campaign for its clubs.  The Madden
campaign will highlight the Alien Ultimate Wedge and Alien's
TUTCH Mallet Putter.  Madden will represent Alien Sport products
in media outlets, including broadcast and print promo, and POP
displays (Alien Sport).
     GOLF NOTES: After "months of discussions," Nike and the
Variety Club of Buffalo, NY joined forces to ensure the return of
the Nike Buffalo Open.  The Variety Club has signed two major
sponsors: Benderson Development and Nabisco Foods, but more are
still needed to meet Variety's share of the $200,000 purse.  Nike
pays $100,000 in prize money for each of the 30 events on the
Nike Tour (Buffalo BUSINESS FIRST, 4/15 issue)....Tom Watson
changed to a Zebra putter this week (S.F. EXAMINER,
4/11)....George Lazarus notes Ben Crenshaw will be "very visible"
this weekend during coverage of the Masters and during ads he has
done for GM's Buick division (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 4/12).  Those ads
won't be seen during CBS' Masters coverage, which is sponsored
solely by Cadillac and Travelers Insurance (THE DAILY).
