SIR CHARLES AND MITCH RICHMOND ADDED TO '96 DREAM TEAM

Kings guard Mitch Richmond and Suns forward Charles Barkley
were chosen for two remaining spots on the '96 Men's Olympic
basketball team. A formal announcement will be withheld until
both players sign contracts and marketing agreements, according
to the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION. Richmond had long been considered a
"leading candidate" for the team, but Barkley's presence is a
"major surprise." In Atlanta, Ailene Voisin writes that Olympic
officials, "eager to enhance an already talented roster with a
charismatic personality," made a final, "impassioned" appeal to
Barkley which included a reminder that Atlanta is not far from
his home of Leeds, AL, which would make it easy for his mother
and grandmother (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 4/12). The formal
announcement by USA BASKETBALL will be made on NBC Sunday
afternoon (David Moore, DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 4/12).
