PAYNE PROMISES CONSTRUCTION WILL BE COMPLETED

Responding to criticism that Olympic construction is behind
schedule, ACOG President Billy Payne "vowed everything would be
ready for the Games," writes Elizabeth Kurylo of the ATLANTA
CONSTITUTION. While Payne conceded that Centennial Olympic Park
"still looks like it's got a lot of mud" (it will open on July 19
as opposed to May), he told ACOG's Board of Directors that his
employees "will work harder and sleep even less" and that
"permanent construction is essentially finished." The board also
authorized Payne to preserve all documents and materials from
Atlanta's bid for the Olympics in hopes that a commemorative
museum will be built in the city (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 4/11).
