SABRES NEW LOOK TO INCLUDE RED, BLACK AND SILVER MOTIF

The Sabres will unveil their new uniforms today, with their
traditional blue and gold replaced by a red, black and silver
look. The decision to switch uniforms and logo "is viewed as a
marketing move rather than a sentimental one" as the Sabres
remain "near the bottom" in NHL merchandise sales. The new
uniform and logo were designed by the Burlington, VT, firm of
Jage DiPaolo Kemp Design. The uniforms "are graced by a charged
Bison head with a stylish B and saber on the shoulders." Sabres
President & CEO Doug Moss said the team considered other color
schemes including navy, but "opted for a more pronounced black
base." Moss: We were afraid navy would be too close to the
Buffalo Bills and we didn't want to look like we were copying the
Bills" (James Fink, Buffalo BUSINESS FIRST, 4/15 issue).
