ASTROS YET TO SHOW SIGNS OF LIFE AT BOX OFFICE

     Their first homestand "was not exactly what Astros expected"
at the turnstiles.  The team needs to average 31,000 fans a game
to reach the goal of 2.5 million tickets sold.  After averaging
20,027 for the first nine games, the team will have to average
more than 32,000 from the point on to hit 2.5 million.  Pitcher
Shane Reynolds, on the pressure the players are feeling:  "We
feared that people wouldn't come if we didn't play well.  We
feared that a start like this [they are 3-6] might mean that the
team might be moving elsewhere" (Carlton Thompson, HOUSTON
CHRONICLE, 4/11).
