@ WEDNESDAY WEB SITE OF THE WEEK

"The Rink," a Web site produced by CTV Sports to run in
conjunction with the Canadian network's coverage of the World
Figure Skating Championships, was a glimpse into the
possibilities of "netcasting" for CTV and other networks,
according to John McLarty, Producer of New Business Development
for CTV Sports. The site, which provided live score results,
standings and additional info during the tournament, enjoyed 1.95
million hits (as monitored by Nielsen) during the week of
coverage. CTV Sports did not sell sponsorships to "The Rink,"
although McLarty told THE DAILY that their success will be a
strong selling point for future online efforts. The most likely
avenue is CTV's upcoming golf coverage -- with the PGA Tour's
Bell Canadian Open or the LPGA's Du Maurier event both possible.
McLarty envisions "netcasting" as a future revenue stream -- with
the sale of online rights coming in the "very near future."
