BUCS STADIUM PLAN RECEIVES INITIAL OK FROM SPORTS AUTHORITY

The Tampa Sports Authority unanimously approved a financing
plan for a $168M, 65,000-seat stadium to keep the Bucs in Tampa,
according to this morning's TAMPA TRIBUNE. Despite the vote,
Tampa Mayor Dick Greco said the deal still "has a long way to
go." Today the stadium will be voted on by the Hillsborough
County Commission, which has had "at least" three of seven board
members voice opposition. On Thursday the deal goes before the
Tampa City Council (Kenyon & Koehn, TAMPA TRIBUNE, 3/27). NFL
President Neil Austrian was in Tampa to push for the stadium,
adding that Tampa will be a candidate to host the Super Bowl in
'99 or 2000 if a new stadium is built (Pat Yasinkas, TAMPA
TRIBUNE, 3/27).
