HEAT AND PANTHERS NEAR DEAL WITH BROWARD COUNTY OFFICIALS

Broward County officials say they are "on the verge" of a
deal with the Heat and Panthers before a Friday deadline,
according to the MIAMI HERALD. Broward County Administrator Jack
Osterholt said yesterday a "tentative agreement" had been reached
on a plan in which the Heat would end negotiations with Dade
County and the Panthers would agree to an equal split of new
arena profits. Dade officials still hope to "stay in the game"
and will meet today with Heat officials to present a more
detailed version of their $196M new downtown arena. Dade's
efforts "suffered a setback" yesterday when the Miami City
Commission failed to agree on buying out the management contract
at the Miami Arena which prevents the city from building a new
arena (Rafinski & Finefrock, MIAMI HERALD, 3/27).
