LEAGUE NOTES

     The deal between Don King Productions and the MGM Grand
included a no-interest loan of $15M for King to purchase MGM
stock, with King allowed to repay the loan through gate receipts,
according to an AP report.  The deal also guarantees King the
stock will be worth $30M by September '97.  Rival promoter Bob
Arum called the deal "the worst deal for a casino in history"
(AP/LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 3/10)....The Virginia Slims Legends
Tour opens its season April 13-14 at Chicago's Navy Pier.  The
nine-woman field will feature Martina Navratilova, Pam Shriver
and Zina Garrison (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 3/10)....MLS will use
standard-size goals for its inaugural season, and not the larger
goals proposed by FIFA (MLS)....Boston's Metropolitan District
Commission is negotiating with several developers, including the
NHL, to build a network of new rinks in the city.  According to
the BOSTON GLOBE's Frank Phillips, the NHL "is examining whether
it wants to get into the business of building and operating
skating rinks across the country   -- both as an income source
and as a way to cultivate the next generation of fans" (BOSTON
GLOBE, 3/10).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown.
