IMG GETS ST. PETE GRAND PRIX BACK ON THE ROAD

Officials with the Florida Grand Prix of St. Petersburg were
"moderately pleased" with last weekend's race, which was revived
after folding in '90. The race drew 76,000 -- but at "slashed"
ticket prices. Denny Young, VP/Sales and Marketing at IMG, which
owns rights to the race: "It was a good start, but we need to do
better." Kash n' Karry will continue as title sponsor through
'97. The race had about 20-25 sponsors, but only 10 provided
financial backing, according to Young. IMG spent about $2.5M to
stage the race. They lost money, but Young would not say how
much. Young said the race probably will not be profitable until
'98 (Darrell Fry, ST. PETERSBURG TIMES, 2/27).
