NUMEROUS HAZARDS CITED IN STADIUM INVESTIGATION

An engineering report written by New York-based Weidlinger
Assoc. revealed the $280M Atlanta Olympic Stadium needs $3M in
repairs and reinforcements before it can be opened to the public,
according to the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION. "Pitfalls" cited include:
Lack steel-braced connections holding up the seats in the press
area; a shortage of steel reinforcing each of the 37 frames
forming the stadium skeleton; ramps in need of extra welding and
braces for support; and more concrete and steel reinforcements to
"shore up" 18 cracked supports. Many repairs, necessary to
ensure safety after a fatal light tower collapse last March, are
already complete (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 2/25).
