DIXON TAKES FAN-OWNERSHIP FOOTBALL LEAGUE IDEA ON ROAD

David Dixon, one of the founders of the USFL who is now
promoting a new professional football league, took his idea to
Chicago in search of initial investors. Dixon's 12-team
FanOwnership Football League, which would begin next year, would
feature shareholders having majority ownership -- of up to 70% --
after an investor provides initial operating capital of $5.5M.
Dixon: "This is going to be the sports bombshell of our
generation. ... The NFL eventually will strangle itself, and we
will pass it and surpass it within five years." Dixon's plan
calls for a 24-game schedule from mid-September to mid-March.
Dixon: "We'll have TV. We have New York, Los Angeles,
Philadelphia, Detroit. We need Chicago." The league is offering
a $100,000 finder's fee for investors (Bob Verdi, CHICAGO
TRIBUNE, 2/27).
