DISOBEDIENT MARGE TAKES A SCHOTT AT BENGALS NEW STADIUM

Reds Owner Marge Schott "ignited a new round of controversy"
over the stadium sales tax by questioning the Bengals' need for a
new facility. Schott made her first public comments on the
stadium in months when she told the DAYTON DAILY NEWS, "I'm sick
of that stadium thing. ... Why do the Cincinnati Bengals need a
stadium for 10 games a year? It makes no sense." Hamilton
County voters will vote March 19 on whether to raise the county's
sales tax by a half-cent to 6% for an estimated 20 years. Part
of that revenue would go toward new stadiums for both teams.
Michaud & Green of the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER report "stunned
corporate leaders were irked that the Reds owner ignored their
advice and discussed" the $544.2M project. John Williams,
President of Greater Cincinnati Chamber: "Mrs. Schott has always
been spontaneous and outspoken. This is unfortunate" (CINCINNATI
ENQUIRER, 2/27).
