COOKE AGREES TO KICK IN $2.5 MILLION MORE FOR STADIUM

Redskins Owner Jack Kent Cooke has agreed with state and
local officials to ante up an additional $2.5M for infrastructure
surrounding his proposed stadium in suburban DC, according to the
WASHINGTON POST. Cooke's agreement, along with an additional
$12.5M contribution from Prince George's County, will lead to
ratification of the state's $58M contribution next month, say
legislative leaders. Cooke lobbyist Gerard Evans said Cooke's
added contribution will mean no tax or surcharge on Redskins
tickets or parking. Cooke wants the project completed by the '97
opener, and will pay $177M overall to build the stadium, plus $7M
for other costs (Babington & Pierre, WASHINGTON POST,
2/24)....Meanwhile, the bill to finance a new stadium for the
Baltimore NFL team is expected to be voted on by the MD Assembly
this week (WASHINGTON TIMES, 2/26).
