COWBOYS AGREE TO SPLIT NEW SUITE REVENUE WITH IRVING

The Irving City Council unanimously approved the Cowboys'
plan to add 21 luxury boxes to an upper-deck end zone of Texas
Stadium. The boxes, which will hold between 16-40 people each,
will be completed by August 1. In exchange, the team will give
Irving about 4% of income from the suites. The Cowboys also
agreed to give the city part of the income from luxury boxes
added in '93. The city should get about $820,000 for the past
three years and about $2M a year from now on. The money must be
spent on stadium improvements, according to Irving Mayor Morris
Parrish. In addition, the deal calls for Cowboys Owner Jerry
Jones to spend 4% of luxury box income on improvements to Texas
Stadium (Darrin Scheid, FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 2/23). Parrish
said the city still wants to negotiate a cut of marketing deals
with Pepsi, Nike, etc., and that they will seek to renegotiate
the Cowboys' lease, which expires in 2008 (Karen Lincoln Michel,
DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 2/22).
