NAMES IN THE NEWS

     NFL officials dismissed a VARIETY report that NFL Properties
President SARA LEVINSON is the top choice to lead the new CNN/SI
24-hour sports news channel.  Brian McCarthy, Manager of
Corporate Communications at NFLP, admitted Levinson's name has
been floated for other jobs as she "is one of the top executives
out there," but he downplayed rumors of an impending move.
McCarthy:  "Fortunately for us, it is all just speculation" (THE
DAILY)....CBS will televise the life story of JIM VALVANO, who
died of cancer in April '93.  "The Jim Valvano Story," starring
ANTHONY LAPAGLIA, airs this spring (NCAA NEWS, 2/19)....ALBERT
BELLE, on his verbal assault of NBC's HANNAH STORM during the
World Series: "I'd probably do the same thing again.  I don't see
how they can talk about fining or suspending me.  There probably
have been incidents involving reporters that were much worse than
this -- guys being roughed up and nothing happened" (Akron BEACON
JOURNAL, 2/22).
