RED SOX FLOAT SUBURBAN LOCATION FOR NEW BALLPARK

Red Sox VP John Buckley said yesterday the team's push for a
new ballpark will "no longer be tied to convention center or
football stadium plans," according to the BOSTON HERALD. Buckley
added the renewed search for a site "could reach beyond Boston."
The team would like to remain in the city, but Buckley added, "If
we can't find a site in the city, we will have to expand our
search to Route 128," a bypass around Boston. The Sox remain
interested in a city-backed site in South Boston, but
neighborhood opposition "derailed that effort" (Phil Primack,
BOSTON HERALD, 2/22). Buckley also said the team is
"concentrating on coming up with a financial plan to pay for a
stadium before it decides on a site," with several proposals
being floated in the city and suburbs (David Halbfinger, BOSTON
GLOBE, 2/22).
