BREW CREW STILL SHORT ON THE FINANCING END OF NEW STADIUM

Top WI state official James Klauser said yesterday he will
meet personally with representatives of the banks to which the
Brewers owe "millions" in a last-ditch effort to make a financing
plan for a new stadium work, according to the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL
SENTINEL. Klauser, who negotiated the deal under which the team
would contribute $90M of $250M, said if the banks refuse to
change the terms of the team's debt, the project cannot move
forward (Amy Rinard, MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 2/22). While
state officials have rejected a proposal by the Brewers to
restructure financing, they left open the possibility that
something close to what the Brewers sought might still happen.
Stadium Board Chair Robert Trunzo: "If, in fact, hypothetically,
the district were to issue more bonds that could possibly be
backed up by other credit-worthy sources, that would not cost the
taxpayers any additional dollars." Trunzo did not expect any
vote on restructuring at the board's next meeting (Kenneth Lamke,
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 2/22).
