     Sharks Owner GEORGE GUND, Islanders Dir of Pro Scouting KEN
MORROW, and former Bruins player/coach/GM MILT SCHMIDT have been
named the '96 recipients of the Lester Patrick Award for
outstanding service to hockey in the U.S. (NHL)....USA Basketball
Women's National Team member KATRINA MCCLAIN, and former NBA
stars REGGIE THEUS and JAMES WORTHY will make cameo appearances
on an upcoming episode of NBC's "In the House" (USA National
Team).... Bullet CHRIS WEBBER is featured on the cover story of
the WASHINGTON POST Sunday magazine (WASHINGTON POST, 2/19)....
Former Univ./CO football coach BILL MCCARTNEY was profiled as
ABC's "Person of the Week" for his efforts involving the
Christian group "Promise Keepers" ("World News Tonight,"
2/16)....FRANK BUBB is new General Counsel for The Sports
Authority (MIAMI HERALD, 2/19)....Some speculate retiring
Goodyear Racing Director LEO MEHL might try to bring Formula One
to the U.S.  But Mehl says, "you really couldn't find sponsorship
for it" (RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH, 2/17).
     CLARIFICATION:  Last week, NY State Athletic Commission
Chair Floyd Patterson said he was "misinterpreted" when he said,
"I just heard of AIDS a few weeks ago."  Patterson meant that
AIDS is a "relatively recent phenomenon" and not an issue when he
was a boxer.  Patterson's brother died of AIDS complications
almost ten years ago (THE DAILY).
