STADIUM NOTES

     Campaign finance reports show proponents have outspent
opponents 126 to 1 in efforts to gain voter approval in the March
26 referendum for a Giants' China Basin ballpark  (S.F.
CHRONICLE, 2/17)....Cleveland Mayor Mike White said yesterday it
is "crucial" the City Council approve a stadium deal with the NFL
by March 8 (Akron BEACON-JOURNAL, 2/20). ....San Antonio will
host officials from the WAC tomorrow in an effort to lure
championships to the city (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 2/20)....The
Head of the Greater Pittsburgh Hotel-Motel Association says he
fears that a new stadium and expansion of the city's convention
center will have to compete for tax dollars (Pittsburgh TRIBUNE-
REVIEW, 2/20). ....In Minneapolis, Sid Hartman reports that "the
word in NHL circles" is that St. Paul Mayor Norm Coleman has
committed turning over that city's Civic Center to any NHL owner
wishing to move.  Coleman will also reportedly try to lobby for
$35M-$50M in state funding to help remodel the facility
(Minneapolis STAR-TRIBUNE, 2/18).
