OBTAINING OLYMPIC TICKETS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART

Phone sales of Olympic tickets, which began Saturday, are
"well ahead of projections," according to ACOG Dir of Ticket
Sales Jack Tyson. However, the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION reports,
"countless more" could have been sold if more operators and phone
lines were available. Through Monday, an "astounding" 5.3
million calls were made to ACOG's ticket line, but only 2,335
customers actually reached an operator and placed orders. Forty
operators took calls on 144 lines, yet thousands never got more
than a busy signal or were left on hold. Compounding the
difficulties, ACOG's number is not toll-free (Melissa Turner,
ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 2/12). By the end of the weekend, $751,870
worth of tickets were sold, with orders averaging $322 and 14
tickets per call (ACOG).
