OTHER NFL NEWS & NOTES: NFLPA GIVES PRELIMINARY NOD TO CBA

     The NFLPA will approve "preliminarily" an extension of the
CBA with the league through '99, but the union says the owners
must agree to share more revenue in order to get final
certification (USA TODAY, 2/13).
     NEXT ISSUE?  In Cleveland, Tony Grossi speculates that the
recent team moves probably will result in realignment after the
'98 season (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 2/11).
     NOT ANOTHER LAWSUIT?  The city of Berea, OH, home of the
Browns' training facility, has asked the NFL to pay the $500,000
in lost income taxes due to the move.  The NFL has not said
whether they will pay (PLAIN DEALER, 2/11).
     WHISPERS:  ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the first
"rumblings" that Tagliabue's tenure as NFL Commissioner may be
"iffy."  Mortensen, in his "Mort Report" on ESPNET's
"SportsZone":  "If Tagliabue cannot lead the NFL out of this
troubled period, a successor should be contemplated."  He
nominates 49ers President Carmen Policy (ESPNET, 2/13).
