ATLANTA GETS ADDED OLYMPIC TIME; GAMES GO AGAINST HOLLYWOOD

Atlanta viewers will get 20 more televised hours of the
Summer Games than the rest of the country in a deal announced
between NBC and WXIA-NBC in Atlanta, according to Jeffrey Scott
of the ATLANTA CONSTITUTION. Additional TV exposure includes
NBC's "Today" that will broadcast from the Olympic village and a
late-night show from 12:35-2:00am. NBC has yet to announce
whether "Nightly News" will also air from the Olympic city. WXIA
will sell advertising on the 20 hours of additional coverage,
worth an estimated extra $300-400,000 to the station (ATLANTA
CONSTITUTION, 2/10).
FLICKS: VARIETY reports on competition for the
entertainment dollar this summer between Hollywood's big-budget
films and the Olympics. Andrew Hindes notes, "The Games will
have a definite impact on the marketing of the pictures. ...
[And] there will be a decrease in the number of advertisers
available for movie tie-ins" (VARIETY, 2/5).
