PANTHERS 10,000 SHORT OF PSL GOAL; NATIONSBANK ON THE HOOK?

The Panthers have nearly 10,000 PSLs to sell in order to
reach their goal, according to Erik Spanberg of the CHARLOTTE
BUSINESS JOURNAL. The team has produced about $125M of its $150M
needed for stadium financing, but is still "well short" and faces
selling PSLs at "the same time the city's other pro and minor
league teams are struggling just for ticket revenue." To date,
an estimated 52-53,000 PSLs have been sold. Under the initial
deal, the team had assurances from NationsBank that it would buy
any unsold PSLs, which "at this time could leave the bank on the
hook for more than $20 millon worth of seat licenses." Panthers
General Counsel Dick Thigpen says "there is no target date" when
the bank would assume PSLs if they don't sell. Remaining PSLs
cost $2,700 and $3,000 each and the team will launch another
sales push this spring. The team's goal of selling 62,000 PSLs
is 8-26% higher than other cities (CHARLOTTE BUSINESS JOURNAL,
2/12 issue).
