NFL DEAL CLEARS WAY FOR BUILDING IN BALTIMORE

Baltimore city officials are working with the Maryland
Stadium Authority to finish design work on the city's new $200M
football stadium, scheduled to open in less than 30 months. The
timetable calls for construction to begin in mid-August and be
complete by August '98. The lead designer is K.C.-based HOK, the
same firm which designed Oriole Park at Camden Yards (Edward
Gunts, Baltimore SUN, 2/10). The Authority still must go before
the Board of Public Work for approval. If approval is not
received by March 1, officials "may go ahead" and begin making
improvements to Memorial Stadium, because money for that project
has already been approved (Brad Snyder, Baltimore SUN, 2/10).
FALLOUT FOR REDSKINS: Prince George's County Exec Wayne
Curry made visited the State House Friday to "press" his plan to
raise revenue for the Redskins' new Landover stadium. Curry's
proposal calls for a surcharge on Redskins tickets or parking
spaces to raise $23M over 10 years. Redskins lobbyist Gerald
Evans calls Curry's plan "crazy" and "out of the question"
(WASHINGTON POST, 2/10).
